Jan. 14 Meeting
Aaron Rostad was sworn in as Student Senate President, and Jacob Weigandt was sworn in as Vice President of Learning. Later Eric Gage was elected and sworn in as the Vice President of State and Local Government.
Aaron addressed the Lobbying, Transportation and Communications Committee to help gather support for a new parking lot, which was recently approved by the District Board at a meeting on Jan. 1.
Ryan Winkler spoke about the Polar Plunge on Feb. 10 and asked that all senators participate.
A new temporary committee, the Lactation Room Committee, was established, with the objective of the creation of a lactation room for mothers that require a place to breast-feed their child. Jennifer Johnson is the chair for this committee.
Ideas for the creation of an inter-campus shuttle were discussed.
Jan. 21 Meeting
The Senate began budget discussions about next year on how to best allocate and secure funds to best serve the student body. Ideas were brought up, and it was suggested that Senators think of more for later senate meetings.
The transportation program, mainly the bus pass funds, were discussed. Seeing a need to plan for the future, it was recommended that an audit be done by the Senate to plan for the future of the program. Nathan Uibel took on the task and will hopefully have something to report by next meeting. The contract with the Madison Metro Bus system expires after the end of the 2011-2012 school year, with the option for up to two more years to be added onto that contract.
Ryan Winkler collected more information for the Student Senate bios, which will be available online soon. Check http://matcmadison.edu/plus/student-senate to learn more about those representing you in the Senate.
The Senate Social was held, with food and beverages and a more relaxed time was spent learning a bit about the senate for new and interested people. The second Senate Social will be held on Feb. 4.
Five senate chairs are currently open, and need to be filled. If interested, either contact Ryan Winkler (rdwinkler@stu.matcmadison.edu,) or visit the Student Senate Web site (listed above) for further information on criteria.
