President's Message
Dr. Bettsey Barhorst
Issue date: 11/11/09 Section: News
All of these story elements, plus many more, became the ingredients in our new visual identity. But Mark also warned us that we could not expect a logo to define Madison Area Technical College because despite the many important elements that go into its design, the only characters in our story are our faculty, staff, alumni, and current students.
So here you have our new college logo.
As you can see we now have a coat of arms to project our credibility, quality, strength and time-honored traditions. We have a pathway to reflect the journey you are taking, the portal into your future and the decisions you have to make at each fork in the road to your educational and professional careers. You also see the capitol - a symbol of "place," and an icon of stature.
What you don't see is the great potential for all of the ways in which this visual element can be manipulated to reflect specific sub-identities of our college - like each of our campuses and each of our centers. That's the part of the project yet to unfold.
You'll notice that the new logo keeps our name intact - because we're not changing our name. We are, however, trying to refrain from the written and verbal use of "MATC." When we want to trim syllables we're using "Madison College" instead.
This logo will be presented to the District Board of Trustees at their Nov. 11 Board meeting. After that meeting you'll begin to see this logo appear in various places across the campus over the next six to twelve months.
This is an exciting endeavor for the college and I'm glad you've had a role in this part of our on-going story.
