Issue date: 10/28/09 Section: News
Every semester the MATC libraries add new books, videos, online databases and services to better assist student in their educational pursuits. Here are a few recent additions.
Credo Reference
Credo Reference is an online database encompassing over 400 searchable reference titles, including encyclopedias, biographies, and medical dictionaries. It makes a great academic alternative to Wikipedia.
LearningExpress Library
LearningExpress Library offers certification practice tests, exercises, skill-building courses, and other information to help you succeed in the workplace, in both English and Spanish.
Opposing Viewpoints
Opposing Viewpoints is an online database that provides information pros and cons on critical social issues. The information comes in the following formats: electronic reference books, magazine articles, academic journal articles, newspaper articles, primary sources, statistics, multimedia files and Web sites.
SmartImage Scientific & Medical Art Imagebase
This is an online collection of 18,500+ high quality illustrations and animations covering anatomy, physiology, surgery, diseases, conditions, trauma, embryology, histology, and other health science topics. Users may download images for educational use in lectures, presentations, slide shows, Web sites and more.
More e-books
E-books or electronic books are regular books which have been digitized and the full text made available on the web 24/7. The MATC libraries have had these for a number of semesters now and continue to add new titles to their collections. Recently, subject sets for Nursing I, II, III, College Success and Vocational Education were added to our Netlibrary Account.
New Tech at Truax
Truax Library has added 10 netbooks and 3 portable DVD players to check out. Equipment can only be used in the library and you must sign a one-time "terms of use" form.
Skype
Lastly, remember the Libraries greatest service is the staff. You can contact them in person, by phone, email, chat, and now Skype. Skype lets you place a video or voice call, chat via instant message, exchange files and screen share-all at no charge. The MATC libraries have begun offering one-to-one reference/research help sessions with a librarian using Skype. For more information click on the Skype widget from our library Web site, or call 608.258.2499 for an appointment.
