Hansen described this struggle as, "extremely agitating. I spent 35 years of my life as a white male, possessing every right that people take for granted. As soon as I came out and started to transition and figured out that I was transgender I thought for a while that I still held all of my social rights, but society is proving me wrong. Everything I thought I would be able to keep was slowly stripped away." Hansen, and the rest of MATC Pride Alliance, kept many of these issues in mind as they boldly walked through the Summer Fest grounds in Milwaukee cheering in support of the issues that affects their daily lives.
Also present to show their support for AIDS Walk Wisconsin was US Senator Russ Feingold, who delivered the opening address before the walking commenced, and singer Justin Vernon from indie group Bon Iver. Many other organizations around the Milwaukee area were displaying support, such as One Heartland, HIVictorious, and the Wisconsin Association of Nurses in AIDS Care. Doug Nelson of ARCW expressed, "AIDS Walk Wisconsin is an event of profound solidarity. People from all walks of life came together today to raise much needed funds for AIDS prevention and to assure access to health care for all HIV patients."
What started as an entirely too cold day for any sort of walk quickly turned into a day full of support and inspiration as the sun slowly decided to join in. As the MATC Pride Alliance group crossed the extravagant finish line it was nothing but smiles and support as the group crossed over hand in hand.

I think it's great that MATC students raised so much money to help.
