The path the story takes you on is a long and winding one, filled with many unexpected twists and turns. The plot leaves you wondering how things will work themselves out. It also presents a laundry list of problems, puzzles and obstacles for the characters to solve that makes for very engaging reading. You feel like you become part of the story yourself trying to decipher the puzzles and codes before the characters do.

Those familiar with the two earlier Langdon novels will find several offhand comments by Langdon and others referencing his previous adventures in Rome and Paris. Running across these comments in the story will bring both a smile to the faces of those who read them and also memories of those other books.

"The Lost Symbol" is the latest success in the line of Dan Brown's bestsellers. If you are unfamiliar with the Robert Langdon series I would recommend reading the series in order but it is not necessary.

Because of the phenomenon that was "The Da Vinci Code," Dan Brown and everything he writes after will be unfairly compared to it. "The Lost Symbol" contains all the same elements: intrigue, history, a thrilling plot and controversy. "The Lost Symbol" is, on its own, a thrilling novel that reads quickly and keeps you interested; once you pick it up, you will only put it down again when you are finished with it.
