Outstanding student leaders, learners, clubs and organizations of MATC were honored at the Celebration of Student Success held in Redsten Gymnasium, truax, on Wednesday, April 22.

A total of 115 students, six advisors and 23 student groups were nominated for special honors at the banquet.

One of the top awards given out was the Karen Roberts Student Life Leadership Award for Outstanding Students of the Year, which recognizes students who have served in a variety of leadership roles on and off campus during their college career.

The award has been presented for six years and is made possible by an endowed fund established in the name of Karen Roberts, who served as the Student Life Administrator for many years during her 31-year career at MATC.

Three students received the Karen Roberts Leadership Award this year: Sabrina Madison, Ananda Mirilli and Katrina Willis. Each winner received a crystal award, a check for $300 and will have their name on the Student's Wall of Honor at the Truax Campus.

Madison is a member of the college's Volunteer Center. She coordinated the Goodman Food Drive for MATC, participated in an alternative spring break trip to Washington, D.C. and serves as the Wisconsin Technical College System State Ambassador from MATC.

Mirilli is the communication director for the Volunteer Center and is a member of MATC's Environmental Sustainability Alliance (MESA). She has organized events to bring agencies on campus, provide a bike tune-up clinic and complete a park clean up service project.

Willis is the public relations officer for the Black Student Union, Vice President of the Business Professionals of America, an officer on the Executive Leadership Team, a member of the Student Senate and a member of the Marketing Club.

Other awards presented include:

• Outstanding Student Tutors of the Year - Jacob Ferina, Jacob Schmid, Andrew Zganjar.

• Outstanding Student Employees of the Year - Chuck Kurth, Laurel Qualy, Casey Raimer, Elizabeth Rais, Robert Witt.

• Outstanding Student Group: Academic Achievement - Art Club (3.934 cumulative GPA).
