MATC instructor Mark Coyne and two other health professionals were killed in a Med Flight helicopter crash near La Crosse Wis, May 10, 2008.
Schnabel, the scholarship winner, was recognized at the MATC Foundation Breakfast on Thursday, April 23.
Schnabel took basic emergency medical technician classes at MATC in 2000 and had Coyne for an instructor. She is now a student in MATC's paramedic program and will graduate this May.
"Mark started me off in my EMS career and now, through this scholarship, he continues to help me," Schnabel told the audience. "I know I will have a very rewarding career of helping people just as Mark did."
Mark's wife, Ann, accompanied Schnabel on stage during the event after being introduced by MATC's Foundation Executive Director, Bob Dinndorf.
Dinndorf thanked the entire Coyne family for their support on behalf of the college and future recipients of the scholarship.
"This new scholarship fund helps fulfill Mark's motto, 'Education is like a candle, you lose nothing by lighting another candle,'" Dinndorf said.
