The spirit of Madison makes it unique

As I am positive there are more cities out there that resemble Madison, I am positive there is not one that is exactly the same. In my opinion, what makes Madison truly unique is that it's located in Wisconsin. No offense to local Wisconsinites, but I'm sure every out-of-state- student can agree with me that when we phone home and tell them all how wonderful it is, I get the same response from everyone, "Yeah that sounds great and all, but it's Wisconsin! Isn't there just a bunch of cows?" I try to stick up for Madison by responding, "Yes there are cows in Madison, but they all have different designs on them. Today I saw one that had Earth drawn on its stomach and peace signs in its eyes." This is always followed by a pause of confusion.
Having lived in Madison for three years, I now officially call it my home. Don't get me wrong, I will never forget my childhood home of Maine and Connecticut, or the struggle it was to move half way across the country at 17 years old. But I still feel the most at home when I am at my house in Madison. It's a beautiful thing when someone finds a place where they can truly let loose and be themselves. Not to mention, now that I am a Madisonian, when I'm on State Street and see the same young girl with a suit case and wide-eyes observing everything she sees, I give her a smile and utter my favorite phrase, "This is Madison."
