Fans could tell right away this was no ordinary game. After the first blocked shot, Gary "Big Dog" Breneman announced over the speakers, "You were open, and now you're closed." Laughter and a little friendly rivarly were part the atmosphere at the Jam the Gym event at Madison College's Redsten Gymnasium on Feb. 20. The day started with alumni games and included a social gathering afterward.
As a tool to enrich the scholastic lives of Madison Area Technical College students, learner development along with Learner Success, an umbrella division which houses the college's instructional areas, including arts and sciences, biotechnology, agri-science, health centers and business and IT technologies, will be conducting a set of two student surveys in the near future in an effort to better serve the students of Madison College.

Phi Theta Kappa induction Madison Area Technical College's Beta Beta Psi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa held its spring semester induction on Tuesday, Feb. 16. The local chapter added 197 new members this semester. Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society for two-year colleges.
First Lady Michelle Obama officially announced on Feb. 9 the launch of the first national broad-range taskforce against childhood obesity. Known as "Lets Move," the initiative is backed by $10 billion over the next decade in federal funding and has four main focal points: healthy choices, healthy schools, increased physical activity and access to healthy, affordable food.

At the 11th annual Polar Plunge, over 2,400 people jumped into the icy water of Lake Monona off of Olin Turville Park to benefit the Special Olympics on Feb. 20. The mood, despite the frigid water and snowy weather, was upbeat and cheerful. While standing in a long line, waiting to jump, plungers compared costumes.
As I was wiping the sweat from my face after a recent Zumba class at the Truax campus, I realized just how important exercise is in our daily lives. I walked into the dance workout feeling stressed and exhausted and came out feeling re-energized! A little bit helps We all know exercise is important to help keep us healthy and trim (we won't even mention the dreaded "freshman 15"), but it's also great for your mind.
