As the heavy rains fell on Sept. 22, Madison Area Technical College students sat in class and worried about staying dry as they walked back to their vehicles. Instead, students should have been worried about their cars staying dry. By noon sections A2 to C2 in the first student parking lot were flooded with close to three feet of water in some places.Water levels rose over the front of vehicle grills and stood as high as the middle of car doors in some sections.
On a dark, cool, windy and rainy day this past month, something enlightening and beautiful happened here at the college. As a record amount of rain turned the Truax campus parking lot into a swimming pool, 15 students waded through water that at times was up to their waist, to help push their fellow classmates' flooded cars to safety.
Madison Area Technical College's Volunteer Center has an exciting year between alternative breaks, food drives and many local opportunities available for volunteer work. Currently they are attempting to raise $1,000 by collaborating with other MATC clubs, between Volunteer fairs and donations to donate to the annual Aids Walk Wisconsin.
Since 1982 schools around the country have been participating in what's known as Banned Book Week. Banned Book Week, always in the last week of September, stresses the first amendment and the importance of freedom.
Both the Modern Language Association (MLA) and the American Psychological Association (APA) released new, extensively revised editions of their popular style manuals this year. Any printed resource that was created before mid-summer 2009 almost certainly has the old APA guidelines, and might have missed the spring release of the new MLA guidelines, as well.
Truax-Mitby Theater was peppered with family and friends in support of 63 new members in attendance for the fall induction ceremony of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK). The short ceremony took place Friday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.

Well the library staff has given a solution to the Madison Area Technical College students who don't have a laptop and need to use a computer or watch a DVD.
