Audience left wondering at '9'

Ragdolls, chaos and giant soul sucking robots, that's what you get in Shane Ackers' movie "9." While it looks like a Tim Burton film, dark and full of action with creators that have as much personality in their eyes as Wall-E, this movie is set in a post-apocalyptic war against machines and humans, nine ragdolls are made to fight and survive against the Machine. It's rated PG-13 for the graphic dark mood throughout the whole film and the violence. Though the movie has an RPG game like series of events,

The Frugal Muse

If you're a book lover, this shop is a delight

A book lovers dream. That is an apt description of Frugal Muse. Wall-to-wall, floor to ceiling, bookshelves line the perimeter of the store with the spaces between filled in with smaller shelves and displays. It's quiet, yet friendly atmosphere makes shopping here a delight for those who love to read.

Both bring good music and messages to the Union

On Sunday Sept. 27, Michael Franti and Spearhead brought their upbeat, genre-crossing music with a message to the Wisconsin Union Theater, putting on an energetic show for an equally enthusiastic crowd. Franti has been tackling social justice issues and promoting peace and non-violence through music since the mid-1980's, beginning with hip hop groups The Beatnigs and The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy.

In March Les Claypool released another solo album called "Of Fungi and Foe." The album is an odd mix of hillbilly, gypsy, electronic and acoustic music. The music, like always, is complex, progressive and catchy. However with this effort it seems like Claypool is trying to create a new style of music, odd music of course, but not like anything you may be comfortable with even if you're fan of the album "Purple Onion" or the band Primus.
