Forensics team places 5th in state competition, Clarion Staff Writer

On Friday, Feb. 20, and Saturday, Feb. 21, MATC's forensic team participated in the 2009 state tournament. The Wisconsin Collegiate Forensic Association sponsored the tournament. The WCFA is open to any two or four-year colleges in the state. MATC is currently the only two-year college in the WCFA and competes against many of the four-year UW schools. The two-day event was held at UW Stout, in Menomonie, Wis. Three students represented MATC at the event: Spencer White, Lisa Patterson and Nick Camp. Coach Patti Huber, assistant coach Stan Johnson, and another forensic coach, Steve Salmon, accompanied them.

WolfPack stung by Rochester in National Championship

The MATC women's basketball team ended its season exactly where it had set out to at the beginning of the year; in the championship game of the 2009 NJCAA National Tournament. Although they came up short in the title game, the five second and six first-year players utilized their blend of youth and experience to near perfection during their tournament run.

College adds alert system

Students and staff can sign up to receive text messages

Madison Area Technical College is joining over 300 colleges nationwide in the use of a real time notification system for students and staff. The system will instantly send a text message to the user's cell phone or email account, if an emergency should arise. The e2 Emergency system being used by MATC, is a user-controlled account. Once a user goes through the two-minute registration, available online, he will have instant access to information being sent out to members of the campus network.

Former newspaper editor enjoying new role with MATC Foundation

The new Director of Development's office is filled with items reminiscent of her days as a journalist. Items such as a framed letter congratulating her on being a finalist for the 2008 Pulitzer Prize in Editorial Writing, various frames with posters, an article from The Onion "Grateful Editor 'Loved Every Minute'" and a frame containing a picture of her and her husband surrounded by many of her friends and colleagues at the Wisconsin State Journal.

Operation Fresh Start thriving after 30 years

For more than 30 years Operation Fresh Start has been an essential part of the Madison community. It has provided opportunities for about 7,000 of Madison's troubled youth to learn marketable skills to contribute to society.

Phi Theta Kappa honors 143 inductees this semester

MATC's chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society welcomed 143 new members into its ranks on Feb. 27. The Beta Beta Psi Chapter currently has over 500 members in its ranks and brings in over 200 members a year.

College seeks suggestions for a possible name change
